THE CAMBRIDGE CITY 175th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

Historic Cambridge City celebrated its 175th anniversary this year. The town was incorporated in 1836 and continued to grow and prosper as the westward expansion of the United States progressed. Alternately, Cambridge City became a hub for over the road, canal, and railroad commerce, as well as the home of many factories and mills that produced goods for both local and national consumption.

The town had an exciting and fun filled week-long celebration, which began on Friday evening, June 24, 2011 and ran through Sunday July 3, 2011. The festivities opened with a ribbon cutting, on Friday June 24 at the Bicentennial Park, located at the corner of Main Street and S. Foote Streets. The opening ceremonies included musical entertainment, venders selling refreshments, and a caricature portrait artist.

The continuing week long celebration had something for everybody and included a Queen Contest, a Talent Show, the Community Choir concert, an Ecumenical Worship Service, sidewalk sales, a farmers market, a quilt and craft show, a country and western concert, a Plein Air Art Show, historic tours, and lots of food and treats.

The grand finale was held on Saturday July 3, 2011 at the park and included a car show, a tailgate supper, a DJ and Cambridge City's famous annual fireworks display.
